Joe Hillman is an Associate at Haltom & Doan. He graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in History and Political Science from the George Washington University, and went on to receive his Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan Law School.
Prior to joining the firm, Joe spent the first two years of his legal career clerking in the Eastern District of Texas, first with the Honorable Christine L. Stetson and then with the Honorable Robert W. Schroeder III. His courtroom exposure includes being the lead clerk for a criminal trial and dozens of hearings on various motions in civil cases, as well as observing a patent infringement trial, a patent damages trial, and an excessive force jury trial. Over his two years with the court, he worked on everything from patent infringement and trade secrets to insurance disputes and death penalty habeas petitions. He also had the unique opportunity to observe several successful civil mediations. As a clerk, Joe prided himself on knowing the ins-and-outs of docket management and learning about what day-to-day practice looked like across various chambers.
While at Michigan Law, Joe was a Quarterfinalist in the 2021 Henry M. Campbell Moot Court Competition, a Student Attorney with Michigan’s Criminal Appellate Practice Clinic, and a Notes Editor for the University of Michigan Journal of Law Reform.
Outside of the office, Joe enjoys long road trips, visiting National Parks, his goldendoodle Eleanor, and sampling the fine restaurants of Texarkana with his Taco Tuesday group.
